We are delighted to announce that RBC GranFondo Whistler 2019 will be an official UCI Gran Fondo World Series event. This follows the news earlier released that we will also host the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in 2020.

When you register for RBC GranFondo Whistler in 2019, you’re automatically taking part in a World Series event. There are around 20 events globally who have won the rights to stage this series each year. World Series riders compete to be in the top 20% of their age group and earn a qualifying spot to the World Championships – open exclusively to non-pros.

You will still be able to register and take part in RBC GranFondo Whistler in 2020, even if you haven’t qualified for the World Champs – they’ll be run side to side. When you qualify and ride in the Champs however, you’ll be racing for the right to win both the overall and age-group World Champion rainbow jersey. Forget that this is the first time this has been held in North America – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any everyday cyclist.

Both the World Series (2019) qualifiers and World Champs (2020) will be held on the same established 122km Gran Fondo course. With riders from around the world qualifying on others courses in different countries, it goes without saying that to qualify on the very course that the Championships will be held gives a significant advantage.

In the meantime, good luck, and see you for the World Series qualifiers on Sept 7, 2019!
