Fundraise: 2019 charity partners
Not content with throwing a huge celebration of cycling in California’s tech heartland, we’re proud to work closely with our riders to support local youth-serving non-profit organisations through the sport we all love.
We select our charity partners carefully for their specific focus on promoting kids’ programs and development, and after helping to raise $125,000 in the first year of the event in 2018, we are delighted to officially announce our 2019 charity program in conjunction with the weekend’s event.
For this year, riders will be able to donate and fundraise towards BizWorld and Positive Coaching Alliance. Both with significant footprints in the Bay Area, these charities support local youth development through encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit and promoting self-improvement through athletics.
It’s a cause that means a lot to the event’s founder, Neil McKinnon. “We are thrilled to share that our RBC GranFondo Silicon Valley participants will have the ability to voluntarily donate to, or fundraise for, these two outstanding nonprofits that are making a significant impact in the lives of Silicon Valley’s youth. Together, we hope to make a difference.”
The principal event sponsors Royal Bank of Canada US and City National Bank are directly involved with the selection process of the charities, as well as donating themselves. Lauren Stanley, Vice President at RBC Capital Markets, added “RBC and City National Bank are committed to making meaningful and positive contributions to the communities where we live and work. In an effort to support the future generation of leaders, RBC invests in youth-serving organizations that provide kids with the support and tools necessary for them to achieve their full potential.”
Who are the charities?
BizWorld is committed to enriching the quality of education and future prospects for under-served youth, promoting financial literacy, and assisting all children in achieving their highest potential. We are the largest teacher-led entrepreneurial program in the world, having reached over 720,000 children in the US and globally. We believe we can inspire every child to have an entrepreneurial spirit: to lead confidently, think critically and creatively, and be financially responsible.
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is dedicated to developing “Better Athletes, Better People” through youth and high school athletics. Nationally, 70% of young athletes stop playing organized sports by age 13 because it is no longer enjoyable. PCA’s mission is to transform the sports culture from a win-at-all-costs mentality to one where every participant has a positive experience. PCA promotes ethical behavior, self-esteem and confidence so youth athletes can focus on personal improvement, the welfare of their teammates, and their education and career goals.
Rider fundraising
It couldn’t be easier to help fundraise towards the cause of your choice.
Simply select the amount you wish to give during the RBC GranFondo Silicon Valley rider registration process, or visit the donation store at any time.
Whether you’re looking to fundraise thanks to the challenge of the ride or you’re simply feeling altruistic, every dollar we raise together will go directly to the charities.
We’ll be announcing the biggest donors on-stage at the event alongside the check presentation. Let’s see how much we can raise!
