2024 volunteer positions now open!

 squadra

(‘skwadra)

noun; Italian feminine

  1. (gruppo) team, squad
  2. a group that comes together to achieve a goal

If you’re looking to be part of one of Canada’s largest cycling events you are in the right place. Join us as a volunteer at the RBC GranFondo Whistler!

Squadra are the volunteers at the heart of the event every year, and it simply wouldn’t run without the hard work, smiles, and dedication of our 600+ volunteers.

In return, all RBC GranFondo Whistler volunteers receive a t-shirt, swag bag, access to exclusive discounts and competitions and the chance to meet new people and make new friends. AND it’s a lot of fun.

Volunteer registration is officially open for the season! You can volunteer in Whistler, Vancouver and everywhere in between on the beautiful Sea to Sky highway.

Have questions? Check the Squadra FAQs section below or email our Volunteer Manager via [email protected]

Part of a group? We have a small fund available to donate to your organization or cause in return for 10+ volunteers. Get in touch to find out more.

“It is the people that keep me coming back” – Sue’s story

Suzie is a long-time volunteer at RBC GranFondo Whistler

“There is no shortage of words to describe how fantastic it is to be a part of the GranFondo – Squadra Team. For many years it has been the highlight of my summer activities.

I have had the privilege of participating on the volunteer side of the event for over 10+ years. It has been an extremely rewarding experience to be part of such a premiere cycling event.

“When I first came to BC I was in awe of the “spirit of the volunteer” that permeates this province. It elicits the best in people and generates a perpetual excitement at the events that unfold all summer.
“When I first became involved, the GranFondo group were encouraging and welcoming. It turned out to be one of the my all time favourite experiences! Everything was well organized, and the other volunteers alongside me were simply awesome! The camaraderie we developed was immeasurable, and many  return as friends year after year.

“I have met riders and volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds and destinations. The GranFondo has an international flavour, filled with excitement, endurance, commitment and total positive energy. The enthusiasm of the Squadra volunteer teams is beyond limits. The ambassadors that give their time – at the start, along the route, and at the grand finale in Whistler – are truly amazing people. We could not host the event without all their hard work, dedication and efforts. It is the people that keep me coming back.

“If you are able and eager, please join us for a great day (or weekend)! You won’t be disappointed – there is something for everyone!”

Squadra FAQs

What roles are available?

Lots! We are looking for over 600 volunteers. You can see all the roles and shifts available here. We have everything from mechanics, bag check hosts, cheerers, bar volunteers and medal distributors and much more! There really is something for everyone so bring your friends and family along too!

What do I need to bring with me?

Dress in layers for all weather possibilities. Many volunteer roles will require being outside and working outside is way more fun when you are dressed appropriately for the weather. That means:

  • Rainwear and waterproof footwear…you just never know if the rain clouds will decide to show up
  • Comfortable, closed toe footwear
  • Layers that you can put on or take off depending on temperature…the sun has yet to confirm whether it will attend the event or not
  • Sunscreen and a hat (you never know!)
  • Don’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle!

Arrive on time for your shift having fully read all the materials that have been provided. Arriving fully informed and prepared will add to the enjoyment of your experience as you will be able to directly answer any questions with confidence.

Are refreshments provided?

Yes but always come prepared to events with a full (reusable) water bottle and some basic snack items for yourself. We will provide snacks and refreshments, but the timing might not fit with your growling stomach and whilst we cater for as many dietary requirements as possible it’s always best to bring enough snacks if your allergies can be harder to cater for.

How do I get there (and back)?

The best way is to arrange your own transport either via public transport or by car. If you’re driving we strongly advise you to carpool with other volunteers – it frees up parking spaces and means less cars on the road which is a bonus for the environment and cyclists!

There is a staff shuttle bus that leaves Vancouver for Whistler at 5am and returns at 5pm. To reserve a place please email [email protected] – please note places are limited.

I can't see the role/shift I want?

There are a couple of reasons for that.

It might be that the role is really popular and has already filled up. Usually there is always another similar role in the same location for you to sign up for OR you can sign up to be a Volunteer Superhero and we will slot you in to any role that needs you on the day or to fill in for drop outs.

Some roles such as mechanics, medics and drivers require qualifications and experience so we keep those password protected – if you fit the requirements and are interested in one of those roles email [email protected] to find out more.

I've signed up but can't remember my shifts.

You can look them up here. Just put your email address in and it will send them over to you.

I volunteered and need a letter to prove it.

No problem – email [email protected] and we will get one sent over to you. Make sure to include your name, the email address you registered with and the role and shift you did. It’s also really important you sign in and out before and after your shift so we know for sure you were there.

Can I sign up for 2024?
I still have questions!

Send them over! You can contact our volunteer manager at [email protected]
